(2) Through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea
January 6, 1926 Perim
To the Superior General, Father Rinaldi FilippoDear Father Rinaldi,
There was no unusual information other than what had been passed down by many people who had made the same voyage. One after another, what appeared before our eyes was Africa on the right, and in the distance, the country of Jesus Christ and the Arabian Peninsula!
(Omitted)Oh Lord, how many people there are who do not yet know You! On the one hand, the magnificent and admirable nature, and on the other, the amazing feats of human technology! At the same time, we see the exploitation of colonized countries, the devout figures of Muslims prostrating themselves as they face the sunset and recite their prayers, and the many passengers living trivial, empty lives alongside us as we live our lives together.
Today is the Feast of the Epiphany. Members of the Italian Opera Company joined us and sang Mass together (Mass Te Deum by Pelosi). Perhaps nowhere else in the world has Jesus been praised with such beautiful music on a ship at sea. What else could we offer to the Holy Child?! We all gave Him our all.(Omitted)

on board 2As for myself, I am confident that I am held in God's hands, and I am working calmly while striving to maintain unity with God. (Omitted) Please pray that God's love will burn away any remaining shortcomings in our souls, and especially in the heart of this child of yours.
Father V. Cimatti
